Default A frickin' Norn Pub: a drunken compromise.

After finally reaching 9000 minutes of the drunkard title, I reached an epiphany I am sure many of achieved before: this is completely ridiculous.

I am fairly confident that many people feel the same way, but I still cannot recommend turning drunkard into a sweet tooth/party animal title, because that would not be fair to the people who have sunk 6.9 straight days worth of time into delving into the bottom of the barrel. But what I would like to propose is a fair compromise, one that still takes the time, but minimizes the ridiculous clicking.

Basically, a bar.

Take the script from Nine Rings which checked your inventory for tickets, and apply it to a pub crawl. Basically, have an area of Olafstead sectioned off for the fine art of drinking. It sells dwarven ale and aged dwarven ale, but more importantly, has tables set up for merry revelry. By clicking on an NPCs, players can pay 300 gold (based on the assumption that one minute of drunkenness = 100 gold), and begin a script which checks their inventory every minute for any level 1 alcohol (I'm ignoring the higher level ones, because you can use those anywhere, anytime individually and reap their full benefits) and activates it appropriately, similar to sitting on the nine rings. The character will remain fully intoxicated for as long as his ale supply lasts (It's a BYOB sort of party), standing around and singing Nornish drinking songs with everyone else.

Wait a minute, isn't that a drunkbot?

Yes. Yes, it is. More to the point, it's an official drunkbot. As it stands, the drunkard title is ridiculous not because of the time investment, but because of the absurd demand that a player click a button every sixty seconds, constantly watching a clock to ensure that they never dip below level 3 drunkeness, yet never waste any beer by clicking too early. The easy compromise is to make a way for players to still invest the 10000 minutes, but do so in a way which isn't so mind-numbingly stupid. If we can AFK to gain lucky and unlucky points, we should be able to AFK to get royally sloshed. That way, the title remains fair in its time investment requirement, but without all the damn clicking that makes it so irritating. Hopefully, a fair compromise between respecting those who have already mastered the Way of the Booze, but far more open to individuals about to begin the long haul to liver failure, all with scripts that already exist in game.

No.

Drink while you're playing, don't play to just drink. It's easy to achieve this jsut by drinking a lvl 5 every 3 minutes while you're doing something like vanquishing.

This is totally the way it should be. I would agree with the OP if it had been implemented years ago.

Yeah, you could turn off post processing and play drunk so you could see the screen but there's this.

I've never even thought of this. We can afk for the lucky/unlucky game and also gain it slowly by using lockpicks. Why not afk drink???

Srsly, this may be one of the best and most reasonable ideas to fix a problem while not screwing over people who lived with the problem for the longest time, that I have seen posted on this forum.

Either this, or increase the amount of booze that you can drink without wasting alcohol to 10 minutes, 20 minutes, or even 30 minutes.

This is absolutely brilliant. And it would be a fun party hangout!

Everyone sitting around drunk singing off-key.

We can even bring in a few drunken Norn reveler NPCs!

/signed so very, very much.

I'd say ok if you made it so it consmed a lvl 1 every 45 seconds making the title cost and extra like 25% in exchange for making the title much easier.

I mean it's not a hard title to get as is...there are plenty of people who have it on multiple characters. And while I am for reducing the grindy feel of the title. I think it should come at a cost.

I've maxed drunk twice. I agree wholeheartedly with the OP. Nice bit of in-character fun, good way to not have to watch the clock, and a great way to use up the otherwise-annoying lvl 1 alcohols. /signed

its not a QQ idea complaining about the current system and as he said turn it into party or sweet, but actually a decent idea and compromise

Did anyone else read this in an Australian or Irish accent? no? Just me?

This is a very interesting idea. A Bar in GW. Only downside I see to that, is it would screw with the rating cause then it promotes the consumption of alcohol. I know there is already alcohol in GW and that could be considered promoting it, but when you actually create an actual bar for the sole purpose of getting drunk and drinking, it might cause problems on the rating.

But interesting idea nonetheless. Sure why not. /signed

Signed.

I'm considering Drunkard for my last title got GWAMM (missed out on Survivor FUUUU) and I have no problem with farming the gold but the time input is immense.

I would have no trouble getting it whilst I played except I have nothing left to do on my main. if I could rack up Drunkard points for my warrior whilst taking my monk and other characters through the campaigns I wouldn't have a problem but I have nothing left to do on my main except drink.

/not signed as suggested, but having something similar during festivals would add some fun to it. BUT, making it so you could AFK the title gets a huge NO vote from me. Maybe have something like an NPC that hosts the party and rewards drunkard minutes for games played.

Making the "Great Norn Alemoot" a repeatable thing with drunk minutes as a reward could be fun. Even more fun would be if you could do it while running the course against other players.

I'm a bit on the fence about something like this. And there will always be people that will be mad they did it the "hard" way..but really I'm all for something that could potentially be sort of a fun area to just have people going for drunkard to hang out and talk. As I imagine a lot of people would go afk, there are people that just genuinely like to talk. Seems like a good compromise, but I also agree to something like End mentioned just to make it so its not a gimme. I dont really think that lucky should be likened to drunkard since lucky/unlucky is by FAR more time consuming afk or not.
As for "promoting"...they're having bar brawls in gw2..cant see there being too much more of a "moral dilema" about something like this.....
so after thinking it out, outloud.. i'd be alright with this, though i doubt it would ever be implemented.

/signed For the love of GOD. I've started my Drunkard title and just recently hit R1 and I'm already sick and tired of it. It's not fun, it's not a challenge, it's just mindless clicking. It's even harder if I try to drink while playing since sometimes I may forget to drink and end up wasting 2 points.

I've always thought that the "show off" bit of drunkard was the fact that you spent an enormous amount of money (or time farming) getting the alcohol in the first place.

Sweet tooth and party animal have always been the "Wow, he has tons of money!" titles.

Drunkard has always been the "Wow, he has tons of money AND enough patience to mindlessly click for a week straight!". That's...not really impressive to me.

If people can AFK and max out their unlucky/lucky titles, I don't see why I can't AFK and get my drunkard title. I wouldn't even mind if they only did it on certain weekends or had it as an event, like they do the festival rings.

Drunkard Weekend, anyone?

I wouldn't mind this as long as there is some cost to using the bar like End mentioned.

This sounds like a great Idea!
Or even having the minutes stack up would be fine.

I like the creativity and the way the idea is presented.

But only /signed if it's limited to being available just during certain festivals, similar to Nine Rings.

I also support the idea of an added cost. But rather than screwing up the timer on the drinks, they could use a ticket system. As long as you have tickets, you auto-drink.

Slowly working on mine. Just IMHO, of the three other online games I have played Drunkard wins in the category of mindless waste of time.

A far easier mod would be to just reduce the time drastically.

Have it display as a mission timer, lets say you drink 5 grog, it would say something like 15:00 mins of Drunkness left.

Yeah signed here as well.

re promoting drinking.
I would say that having to concentrate on the type of drink and the timing of drinking them is in effect making the players think about drink more and could be considered promoting it, even though its make believe drinking.

Making it a little like sweet tooth where you can just use the lot and go play the game means you not thinking about what to drink and when or am I over anylising the problem.
